In it’s maiden year (the 1994/95 college year), the club was Captained by Cormac Ó Dubhthaigh, with Maoilíosa Ó Dubhthaigh (Secretary) and Kieran Keane (Treasurer) filling the other Senior Executive posts. In all, the Club attracted 40 members. After a successful Club League, which ran from November to February, and which introduced many club riders to competitive cycling for the first time, Cormac Ó Dubhthaigh emerged victorious. He also captured the Dublin Wheelers Annual Christmas Hamper when he recorded solo victory which saw him cover the last 9 of the 25miles by himself. The following week, he finished 11th in the Carrick-on-Suir Hamper Race, which was won by American based professional Declan Lonergan.
The inaugural U.C.D. team to compete on the F.I.C. circuit was as follows: Cormac Ó Dubhthaigh, Maoilíosa Ó Dubhthaigh, Kieran Keane, Noel McGlynn and Gerard Moran. Although it was a very inexperienced team, U.C.D. won the 1995 Intervarsity Road Race Championship, which was hosted by Maynooth College as part of its’ bicentennial celebrations. The race consisted of a short individual time trial in the morning and a road race after lunch. Patrick Moriarty, riding for UCDCC, emerged victorious in the race against the clock. However, it was German rider Marco-Rivas May (University of Limerick) who took the honours in the road race. He was followed home by Moriarty in second place with fellow U.C.D. rider Cormac Ó Dubhthaigh taking the bronze medal. As Club League Winner, Cormac Ó Dubhthaigh, had won the right to captain the team and proudly lifted the ‘Maynooth 200’ Cup on behalf of the UCD. U.L. finished second while hosts, Maynooth took third spot. Maynooth easily won the Ladies team prize. Patrick Moriarty made it a double success by capturing the Overall Individual Classification. The winning team in full was Cormac Ó Dubhthaigh (Team Captain), James Walsh, Kieran Keane, Noel McGlynn, Maoilíosa Ó Dubhthaigh, Dermot Lynch, Gerard Moran, Patrick Moriarty, and Conor Teljieur. By beating Maynooth College, they also gained their ‘Colours’. They later received formal recognition by the Athletic Union Council (U.C.D.’s Governing Sports Body), with the awarding of U.C.D. Sports Achievement Awards at an awards ceremony compliments of the College.
Cormac was to add to his league and intervarsity success by claiming the inaugural ‘UCD Cyclist Rider of the Year’ award, which as determined by performances over the season in F.I.C. promoted events. Helen Kerrane won the inaugural Ladies Achievement Award.
