Djouce Trail Challenge

The Djouce Trail Challenge organised by Team WORC took place yesterday, Sunday 12th November. The race consisted of an 18km loop around some of the best singletrack in Ireland, including a number of new sections built specifically for the event. The event was not organised to be a serious race but more a chance to ride some of the brilliant trails and have a good day out biking - this encouraged a great turnout and about 100 riders of all abilities took part. To keep in line with the fun nature of the event there were no individual categories and so all riders started together in a mass start.

The recent dry weather meant that the trails were very fast and there was very little mud or water apart from a couple of small river and stream crossings. Such legendary trails as XTC and Benchcut were linked together with some incredible new sections to provide a challenging course.

Three UCD CC riders took part. Brian Cox, who was racing for his first time after having only joined the club this year and training for a short time cam an incredible 31st place out of 88 finishers. He was using one of the club mountainbikes. Cait Elliot and Oisin Boydell rode very competitive races coming 11th and 8th respectively.
