UCD Cycling Club’s ‘Rider of the Year’, Louise Moriarty, rode a tactically great race to claim yet another victory in her quest for Beijing qualification. Buoyed by her recent win in Melbourne, she contested a highly competitive Points race, which was part of the Devonport Carnival 2-day race series in Tasmania on 30th December. Of the five sprints in the race, each had a different winner which only highlighted the quality in depth of the women's field assembled.

Louise won the tightly contested second sprint from Australian rider Laura McCaughey, who had earlier won the women’s Scratch race. However, it was Louise’s tally of lower placings that ultimately saw her edge out McCaughey for the top honour. Local favourite, Amy Cure, winner of the third sprint, completed the podium places.
