XC NPS Rounds 2 and 3

Round 2 of the Irish cross country MTB national points series took place on Sunday 4th May. The race was hosted Cuchulainn Cycling Club up in Carlingford, Co. Louth. Weather was mixed on the day, starting out with heavy rain followed by dense fog and clearing to sunshine by the end of the senior category races. The race date was moved forward at short notice which resulted in a lower turnout than usual, and Oisin Boydell was the only rider representing UCD. He took a comfortable win in the Experts class, finishing over 4 minutes ahead of 2nd place Ray O'Shaughnessy of Cuchulainn CC and over 10 minutes on David Molloy of Stamullen in 3rd place.

Round 3 took place last Sunday, 25th May at Magheramorne Quarry in Co. Antrim and was hosted by Team Madigan. This was the second year that this unusual venue has been used for an NPS round, and the course weaved amongst disused industrial buildings, quarry works, concrete structures and gravel pits. The course markings made out of old fire extinguishers added to the industrial atmosphere.

Cait Elliot of UCD made her re-appearance on the Irish XC racing scene after an extended break travelling. She competed in the Womens Elite category and took 2nd place. Oisin Boydell also took 2nd place in the Experts category.
